Our friends in KZN offered us an opportunity to be involved in a good cause in the form of supporting a fun fair in aid of Golden Steps School.

“Golden Steps School is a school which provides specialised training in the functional life and survival skills for Intellectually Challenged Learners. The school is situated in a rural area of Cottonlands, Verulamand admits 210 learners with disabilities who cannot derive benefit from the instruction normally provided in the ordinary course of education and require education of a specialized nature to facilitate his/her adaption to the community. Hence this goal is achieved through the delivery of quality education so that each learner may realise his/her optimum potential.

The curriculum therefore aims to empower the learners with self-confidence and much needed skills to eventually become a contributing citizen of the community thus enabling enabling them to take their rightful place in society. The learners of the school come from very impoverished and indigent families of Ndwedwe, Cottonlands, Osindisweni, Magwaveni, Amoati, Trenance Park, Waterloo, etc. Due to their living standards, all learners are treated to a hot, nourishing breakfast and lunch daily. “

Although just a handful of a Beemers came through to support the cause it was still a rewarding experience for those involved.

The school managed to raise funds on the day and the kids were excited upon seeing a few lovely cars and cheering along as we had a "loudest exhaust competition" between an E93 M3 and an F82 M4. The V8 won it.

This was the first ever fair held by the Shamiel, Wazaar and their team of teachers and volunteers from the Golden Steps School, and there will certainly be more of it in the future.

We thank all who assisted tirelessly and made the effort for this day

As for the next SABeemer 'event' for the KZN region. A BMW Fun Run will be taking place 10th Jan 16. Stay tuned.

The Golden Steps School have also proposed and Awards day and Christmas socials to be commemorated at school on Wed 25th November and Friday 4th December 2015 respectively. Learners are treated to speeches, sketches, dance, music, prizes, gifts, etc which culminates in a sumptuous lunch and refreshments.

The Golden Steps School therefore makes an appeal to the communities and companies for a sponsorship towards either one of these functions.
